FACNH offers engaging mini-classes and workshops throughout the year (5 weeks or less) designed to immerse you in different facets of French culture and language. Whether you're interested in exploring French history, mastering specific grammar concepts, diving into cultural traditions, or enhancing your conversational skills, these short-format courses provide focused, accessible learning opportunities.
These programs are perfect for busy schedules and offer educators the chance to earn continuing education credits. From beginner-friendly cultural explorations to advanced language workshops, there's something for every level of interest and expertise.

There are over 50 countries in the world that speak French! Don’t you want to visit at least one or two?
Come to learn or refresh your knowledge of the French language so you can feel more confident while traveling in a French province or country. We offer 2 conversation-based classes to help you gain confidence while speaking this beautiful language. It provides you vocabulary while highlighting some of the cultural differences.

Traveler's French
No knowledge of French? No problem! This 5 week class is a great way to start!
Each class will last 90 minutes. Here are some themes that will be discussed in class (subject to change):
Arriving in France:
At the airport and transit from the airport
Sharing expectations of what to expect when visiting France
The importance of greetings and basic civility
Lodging:
Hotels versus renting an apartment
Location, location, location!
At the hotel: amenities, choice of rooms, speaking with the receptionist or the concierge
Shopping for food in specialty shops or at the open-air market
Shopping for clothing and other items in a department store, store or “boutique”
At the restaurant or at the café:
Reading the menu (la carte)
Ordering in French
French food and specialties
Making a reservation
Visiting Paris:
Getting around the city
Museums
Points of interest
Understanding how Paris is divided into “arrondissements”
Visitions la Belle France:
Although for some visitors Paris IS France, let’s venture outside the Capital city.
Exploring Québec province and Québec
Next Class Starts January 27th, 2026
Must have a minimum of 5 students to run the classes.
Teacher: Mme Townsend
Class Time: 5 to 6:30 PM
Dates: January 27th, February 3rd, 10th, 17th and 24th
Online via Zoom. The teacher will send the online code prior to the start of class.
Voyageurs
Geared towards students who have already taken French either at the High School or College level or through FAC at the Beginners level or above, this 5 week course will emphasize refreshing conversational skills while building vocabulary and expressions that are important for those planning to travel in French-speaking regions.
Themes may include (subject to change):
Crossing the border: introduction, passports, importance of greetings and formalities.
The hotel: Arrival and requests to ensure that your stay will be memorable.
At the bakery/open-air market: local products, metric system, and local currency
At the restaurant: setting, traditional food, ordering, tipping and farewell.
Visiting around the city: Transportation, local amenities, and activities.
Must have a minimum of 5 students to run the classes.

The FAC is proud to offer classes and 1 day workshops covering different aspects of French Culture. These classes are offered in English and are open to all. Past offerings have included topics such as The Modern Chanson and French film viewing & discussion.
