Summary

The book Comme un million de papillons noirs (Like a Million Black Butterflies) tells the story of Adé, a little girl with natural curly, coily hair. Adé loves many simple things—asking questions, chocolate, butterflies… and she used to love her hair too. But one day, children at school start making fun of it.

When it rains, her braids puff up. Some kids say her hair looks like “pillows,” “coal,” or “sand.” Their words hurt her, and little by little she stops liking her hair. She even wants to undo it.

That’s when her mother and her aunts step in. With tenderness and poetry, they tell her how beautiful her hair truly is. They use a powerful image: her curls are “like a million black butterflies sleeping on her head,” ready to take flight when she learns to love and care for them. Slowly, Adé begins to see her hair differently; something precious, unique, and beautiful.

Summary

One morning, the Wolf wakes up in a very bad mood. He looks at himself and decides he doesn’t like being all black. He thinks life would be better if he had another color.
So, over the course of a week, he tries out a different color each day.

But in every case, something feels wrong. None of these new colors really suit him. At the end of the week, the Wolf realizes that his natural black color is perfect for him. He learns to accept and love himself just the way he is.

✨ Overall: This book is playful, funny, and gently reassuring. It works as both a language-learning tool (colors, days of the week) and a story about identity and self-confidence.
